Ray began his foray into landscaping with a wheelbarrow and shovel. His company – Rock Works – quickly grew and soon he was building multi-tiered rock walls retaining multi-million dollar homes at the edge of the lake, restoring areas to their native grass and plants, mitigating soil erosion with proper water management and specific planting techniques. Ray innately understood the value of using mulching process to build soils to create healthy plants and environments…but still there was a piece missing.

He sold his business, completed his Permaculture Design Certificate, Sketch Up Pro and soils course and started Vital Grounds. A more comprehensive landscaping option that created wholistic effective solutions. He moved from landscaping to Land Design that incorporates human needs with Nature’s tendencies to create something that is unique, beautiful, effective and intelligent.
